Complete Game Shutout Gems From Ficoturo/Parrotti Lead Bulldogs to DH Sweep over Aggies in MAC Freedom Opener

Center Valley, PA (March 15, 2025) - The DeSales University baseball team won both ends of a MAC Freedom doubleheader sweeping Delaware Valley University, 4-0 and 10-0, to open MAC Freedom play on Saturday afternoon at Weiland Park.

Game One (W/4-0)
First-year Joe Ficoturo went the distance in this one pitching a complete game shutout, scattering three hits and striking out three through seven innings, leading the Bulldogs past the Aggies in the opener.

DSU took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on an RBI double from junior third baseman Colin Houck. Two batters later the Bulldogs got some insurance as Houck came into score on an RBI bases loaded walk from senior Owen Fischl. DSU tacked on one more in the frame on a wild pitch that scored first-year Jacob Rivera to give DeSales a 3-0 lead through three innings of play.
Bulldogs added one more run and the final tally in the fourth inning off an RBI groundout from Houck as Ficoturo did the rest on the mound for DSU.

Houck finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored. Graduate student Travis Kerr was the X-factor on the basepaths for the Bulldogs as he tallied three stolen bases and scored two runs in the win.

Game Two (W/10-0)
Senior Frank Parrotti followed up Ficoturo's complete game shutout win in game one with one of his own in game two, as he scattered four hits and struck out four across seven innings of work.

DSU got the scoring started in the second inning off a throwing error committed by the Aggies that allowed senior Justin DeStaso to score. One pitch later junior JT Anderosky tripled to deep center field to score Kerr and put the Bulldogs up 2-0 after two innings.

Two more runs in the third inning on RBI singles from senior Owen Fischl and sophomore Ty Akins extended the DSU lead to 4-0.

DeSales blew the game open with four more runs in the sixth inning and scored two more in the seventh to provide the final tally and end the game via 10-run mercy rule.

Seven different Bulldogs had at least one hit in the win. Rivera and Fischl each finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored. Graduate student Gavin Zavorski went 2-for-5 with one RBI and one run scored.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Monday when they travel to Delaware Valley University to wrap up the MAC Freedom opening series with first pitch set for 3:30 pm.
