Baseball Salvages Series Finale to Lebanon Valley After Bulldogs Win Game Two via 10-run Mercy Rule

Center Valley, PA (March 22, 2025) - The DeSales University baseball team was able to salvage a win in the MAC Freedom series against Lebanon Valley College by winning game two, 13-3, after dropping game one, 14-8, at Weiland Park on Saturday afternoon.

Game One (L/8-14)
Flying Dutchmen got the early lead on a three-run home run from Logan Brewer in the top of the first inning. Brewer would not stop there as the next inning he followed up his home run with a grand-slam to put LVC up 7-1 through midway through the second inning.

Bulldogs chipped into the deficit in the bottom of the third with an RBI groundout from junior JT Anderosky to make it a 7-2 ballgame. LVC however tacked on with five runs in the fifth and two runs in the seventh to blow the lead open up to 14-2.

DSU did not go away quietly as they put together a late rally in the bottom half of the seventh inning scoring six runs on six hits to post the final tally as it they fell short in game one. Sophomore Jack Sague and senior Justin DeStaso each had two-RBI singles while sophomore Matt Worek and junior Owen Frye each had RBI singles as part of the seventh inning rally.

First-year Joe Ficoturo was charged with the loss in game one pitching one and 2/3 innings allowing four runs.

DeStaso went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, junior Jeremy Stranix went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and Anderosky finished 1-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI in the loss.

Game Two (W/13-3)
LVC, similar to game one, got out to an early lead scoring two in the top of the first and adding another one in the third on a home run to take a 3-0 advantage midway through the third inning.

DeStaso trimmed the lead down to two in the bottom of the third on a sac-fly that scored graduate student Travis Kerr. Senior Owen Fischl followed up the sac-fly with a game-tying two-run home run to centerfield. The Bulldogs took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning thanks to a sac-fly from Kerr to score Stranix and give DSU the 4-3 lead.

DSU's offense was a clinic from there as they scored at least one run in every inning and would put up a five-run eighth inning to walk-off the Flying Dutchmen via the 10-run mercy rule. Junior Shane Anhalt had an RBI single, sophomore Ty Akins hit a two-RBI double, and Stranix had a walk-off RBI single as part of the five-run eighth.

Six different Bulldogs had at least two hits in the win. First-year Jacob Rivera went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored, Akins was 3-for-5 with two RBIs, and Stranix finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Monday when they host Rosemont College in a non-conference game with first pitch set for 3:30 pm.
