Center Valley, PA (March 28, 2025) - The DeSales University baseball team winning streak came to end on Friday afternoon as their comeback came up short in a 7-5 loss to Misericordia University in game one of a MAC Freedom series at Weiland Park.
Cougars scored the game's first runs in the top of the first inning on a double by Brock Bollinger to make it 1-0 as he would later come around to score on a double play to extend the lead to 2-0 after the first inning. MSU tacked on in the second and third inning scoring three more runs as the Bulldogs saw themselves with a 5-0 deficit after three innings of play.
DSU got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning on a throwing error by the Cougars that allowed junior
Shane Anhalt to score. In the next inning, graduate student
Gavin Zavorski got a hold of one with a solo home run to center field to cut the deficit down to 5-2.Â
Misericordia did get those two runs back in the sixth inning as they plated two runs with a double steal followed by an RBI single to make it a five-run game once again (7-2).Â
DeSales did not go quiet as they scored three runs in the eighth inning that was started with a double by junior
JT Anderosky and capped off by Zavorski as he hit his second home run of the game with a moonshot to left field to get the Bulldogs within two (7-5).Â
DSU made things interesting in the ninth inning as they got the game-tying run on first base with Zavorski coming up to the plate as the winning run but there was no answer this time around as a groundout to the pitcher put an end to the comeback efforts.Â
Junior
Mike Hooker was charged with the loss pitching five and 1/3 innings scattering 10 hits and allowing five runs.Â
Zavorski finished 2-for-4 with two home runs, two RBIs, and two runs scored.Â
The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow as the MAC Freedom series flips to Misericordia University for an important doubleheader with first pitch of game one set for noon.Â
