Baseball Sweeps DH with Misericordia; Taking Two of Three in Key MAC Freedom Series

Dallas, PA (March 29, 2025) - The DeSales University baseball team completed a DH sweep over Misericordia University to win an important MAC Freedom series, winning game one, 11-6, and game two, 11-5, on Saturday afternoon.

Game One (W/11-6)
Misericordia opened the scoring plating three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 3-0 lead after the first. The Bulldogs however countered in the top of the second inning with three runs of their own to tie the game up at 3. Sophomore Ty Akins hit an RBI double, sophomore Jeremy Stranix had a sac-fly, and junior John Rorick had an RBI single as part of the three-run frame for DSU.

DSU took the lead in the fourth inning with a five-run inning that was all ignited by Rorick with a two-RBI double to center field and capped off with a RBI sac-fly from graduate student Gavin Zavorski as the Bulldogs took a 8-3 lead midway through four innings.

The Bulldogs offense added some much needed insurance in the sixth inning as Rorick once came through this time with an RBI single that was then followed up later in the inning with a two-RBI double by graduate student Travis Kerr to blow the game open at 11-3.

Misericordia scored once in the bottom of the sixth inning and twice more in the bottom of the seventh but it wasn't enough as the Bulldogs cruised to the huge game one win.

Senior Frank Parrotti earned the win pitching six solid innings allowing just two earned runs while scattering seven hits and striking out five hitters.

Rorick went 3-for-4 with a team-high four RBIs and two runs scored, Akins finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored and one RBI, and Kerr went 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

Game Two (W/11-5)
DSU struck first in game two with a RBI sac-fly coming from Stranix in the top of the second inning. Misericordia tied it up in the bottom half of the frame scoring a run on an RBI bunt to make it a 1-1 game after two innings.

Senior Justin DeStaso give the Bulldogs the lead in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI single that would start a five-run inning for DSU. Zavorski, senior Owen Fischl, Akins, and Junior JT Anderosky each had RBI singles as part of the big inning for DeSales to take a 6-1 lead after five.

Misericordia cut into the Bulldog lead in the bottom of the seventh plating three runs to make a 6-4 game.

The story of the day for the Bulldogs was having an answer for every Cougar rally, and in the eighth inning they once again responded with a five-run frame to put this game out for good. Fischl had a huge three-RBI double to cap off the eighth as DSU did not look back from there for the doubleheader sweep.

Eight different players had a hit in the win. Fischl led all hitters finishing 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Kerr went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI in game two.

Senior Ashton Johnson earned the game two win pitching four and 1/3 innings in relief allowing one earned run and striking out four.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to William Paterson University for a non-conference game with first pitch set for 3:30 pm.
