Men's Lacrosse Rolls Past Widener, 12-6

Center Valley, PA (March 29, 2025) - The DeSales University men's lacrosse team scored six straight goals in the second quarter as they rolled past Widener University in a 12-6 win in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 12, Widener - 6
  • Records: DeSales (3-7 overall); Widener (1-9 overall)
  • The win improves the Bulldogs record over the Pride to 2-15 all-time. 
How it Happened
  • After the Pride scored the game's first goal, DSU scored twice to before the end of the first quarter on goals from first-year Matt Costigan and graduate student Chase Bowman to take a 2-1 lead after 15 minutes of play. 
  • Widener scored less than two minutes into the second quarter but the Bulldogs dominated the rest of the quarter scoring six straight goals to break the game open and take a 8-2 lead into the halftime break. First-year Jason Reilly led the way for DSU with a hat trick in the second quarter and junior Mark Winkler Jr. scored two goals. 
  • The second half featured a much more evenly matched battle compared to the first half with both teams scoring two goals in both the third and fourth quarter as the Bulldogs cruised to a 12-6 win. 
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Costigan led DSU in scoring with one goal and three assists for four points.
  • Reilly led DSU with three goals in the win.
  • Senior Nate Perry had two goals and one assist. 
  • Winkler Jr. and senior Pat Schuett each scored two goals. 
  • Senior Anthony Gash won 12-of-19 faceoffs and 10 ground balls. 
  • Senior Hunter Waldron got the win making nine saves in goal. 
For the Foes
  • Six different players scored goals for Widener. 
  • Billie Keegan made 10 saves in goal and took the loss. 
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales had the edge in shots, 41-33. 
  • DSU held a 47-24 edge in ground balls.
  • The Bulldogs won 14-of-21 faceoffs.
