Softball Splits DH with Misericordia; Winning Game One 9-1

Center Valley, PA (March 29, 2025) - The DeSales University softball salvaged a split of its MAC Freedom doubleheader on Saturday afternoon taking game one, 9-1, with Misericordia University at McGettigan Park.

Game One (W/9-1)
DeSales opened the scoring in the first inning on an RBI single from senior Tori Kenney that scored sophomore Paige Hromin.

Hromin kept the offense rolling in the third inning on an RBI walk with the bases loaded to increase the lead up to 2-0. Kenney would follow suit with her second RBI single of the game to score Hromin. DSU tacked on later in the inning with two more runs credited to an RBI groundout by junior Shana Gugliandolo and a sac-fly from sophomore Abigayle Freideman as the lead swelled up to 5-0 through three innings of play.

The Bulldogs offensive clinic continued the rest of the way as they scored once in the fourth, once in the fifth, and two more times in the sixth inning to provide the final tally and win via eight-run mercy rule. Gugliandolo came through with the walk-off RBI single in the sixth inning to give DSU the game one victory.

Senior Rachel Lowry earned the win pitching a complete game tossing six innings while scattering seven hits, allowing one unearned run, and striking out six hitters.

Kenney finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Hromin went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored, and Gugliandolo finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored.

Game Two (L/0-8)
The Cougars came out in game two with a six-run first inning as they batted around and put the Bulldogs in an early 6-0 hole.

Misericordia tacked on in the fifth inning scoring two more runs off a two-run home run to swell the lead up to 8-0.

DSU's offense went quiet in game two as they were not able to generate anything on offense as the game ended in five innings with the Bulldogs not able to get on the board in the loss.

Senior Tabitha Lawless was charged with the loss in game two pitching 1/3 innings allowing five runs on thee hits.

Gugliandolo went 2-for-2 in the game two loss.

DeSales returns to action tomorrow as they host York College of Pennsylvania in a non-conference doubleheader with first pitch of game one set for 1:00pm.
