Center Valley, PA (April 10, 2025) - The DeSales University baseball team set a new team record for walks in a game with 18 in a 20-16 win over Cairn University on a rainy Thursday afternoon at Weiland Park.
The Bulldogs broke the old record of 16 bases on balls set back in March of the 1979 season. Nine different players drew a walk and seniorÂ
Colin Houck worked five free passes to also break the individual single-game record of four, held by nine different players.
Cairn opened the game with three first inning run to take a 3-0 lead before DSU got four runs in the bottom of the first and six in the bottom of the second to claim a 10-3 lead. SophomoreÂ
Jeremy Stranix had a two-RBI double in the first, graduate studentÂ
Travis Kerr had an RBI single in the first and a two-RBI double in the second, seniorÂ
Gavin Zavorski had an RBI double in the second, and first-yearÂ
Jacob Rivera had an RBI single in the second.
The Highlanders scored five times in the third to make it a 10-8 and added five more runs in the fifth to take a 13-11 lead.
The Bulldogs got three runs in the bottom of the fifth, two on bases loaded walks from Rivera and seniorÂ
Justin DeStaso, to lead 14-13.
Kerr gave DSU the lead for good with an RBI double in the sixth and DeSales added three in the seventh and two in eighth to provide the final tally.
Kerr finished the game 4-for-5 with two runs scored and five RBIs, seniorÂ
Owen Fischl was 2-for-4 with four runs scored, first-yearÂ
Eric Wert scored three times, sophomoreÂ
Jack Sague had four RBIs, Stranix finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs, Rivera was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs, and DeStaso finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to be back in action tomorrow traveling to Stevens for the first of three over the weekend.
