Hoboken, NJ (April 13, 2025) - The DeSales University softball team dropped both ends of a MAC Freedom doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Stevens Institute of Technology.
Game One (L/7-8)
Ducks scored the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning off an RBI single which was then followed up with another RBI single in the bottom of second inning as SIT led 2-0 after two.Â
Senior
Tori Kenney would trim the deficit in the fourth inning with a solo home run to left field as the Bulldogs trailed 2-1.Â
Stevens would have an answer in the bottom half of the fourth as they plated five runs on four hits to break the game open with a 7-1 lead.Â
DeSales would not go quiet as they got the offense going in the fifth inning when sophomore
Paige Hromin and junior
Shana Gugliandolo each came through with RBI singles to cut the margin to 7-3.Â
DSU rally continued into the sixth inning with Hromin providing an RBI fielder's choice as the deficit now sat at three runs (7-4). Later in the inning, Kenney came up to the plate as the tying run with two runners on base and crushed a three run home run to tie the game up at seven apiece.Â
SIT responded to the Bulldogs big frame with an RBI triple in the bottom of the sixth inning as that would give them the lead and eventually the victory as DSU could put together one more heroic effort.Â
Senior
Tabitha Lawless was charged with the loss pitching two and 1/3 innings allowing one unearned run while scattering two hits.
Kenney finished 2-for-3 with two home runs, two runs, and four RBIs. Hromin went 2-for-4 with one run scored and two RBIs.Â
Game Two (L/0-4)
Similar to game one, the Ducks struck first with two runs in the bottom of the first inning to put the Bulldogs in an early hole.Â
SIT got some insurance in the bottom of the fifth inning as they plated another run off a sac-fly to take a 3-0 lead through five innings of play.
DeSales was shutdown offensively in game two and was not able to string anything together as they only scattered two hits in the shutout loss.
Junior
Riley Long suffered the loss pitching six innings and allowing three earned runs while scattering six hits and striking out one.Â
The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday when they host Delaware Valley University in another MAC Freedom doubleheader beginning at 5:00 pm.
