Glenside, PA (April 19, 2025) - Sophomore
Abigayle Freideman had seven hits and three RBIs leading the DeSales University softball team to a doubleheader sweep at Arcadia University in MAC Freedom action on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs improve to 16-14 overall and 7-5 in the MAC Freedom. DSU sits in third place in the conference standings heading into the final week of the regular season.
Game One (W/6-2)
DSU took a 2-0 lead in this one on an RBI single from first-year
Gianna Angermeier and a Knight error.
After Arcadia got one run back in the bottom of the second inning, DeSales extended its lead to 5-1 with three runs in the top of the third on an RBI single from first-year
Katie Sharkey and two more AU errors.
The Bulldogs got an insurance run in the sixth on an RBI single from senior
Tori Kenney to provide the final score.
Senior
Rachel Lowry earned her 11th win in the circle allowing just one earned over seven innings, striking out four.
Sophomore
Kiara Castera scored twice, Angermeier had two hits, junior
Ava Goodman had two hits, and Freideman had three hits in the game one win.
Game Two (W/10-6)
DeSales took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on a two-RBI double from junior
Shana Gugliandolo and RBI double from Freideman.
DSU led 4-1 into the bottom of the second inning after an RBI single from sophomore
Paige Hromin in the top of the inning before the Knights scored four times to take a 5-4 lead.
A bases loaded walk by Castera and RBI single from Angermeier gave the Bulldogs a 6-5 lead in the top of the third inning, but AU tied the game at six in the bottom half of the inning.
Freideman then hit a big two-run home run in the top of the fourth to make it 8-6 and first-year
Ava DiDonato did the rest pitching four scoreless innings allowing just one hit and striking out four.
Senior
Tabitha Lawless earned the win and DiDonato got a four inning save.
Angermeier finished 4-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs and Freideman was 4-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Gugliandolo had three hits, two runs scored, and two RBI, while Castera, Hromin, and Sharkey all had two hits each.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Thursday when they travel to Moravian University for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm.
