Caleb Gibbs and
Devin Atkinson were each honored on the NABC (National Association of Basketball Coaches) Honors Court for outstanding achievement in the classroom as announced by the organization last week.
Gibbs and Atkinson earn this honor for the second straight which junior, senior and graduate student men's basketball players who finished the 2024-25 year with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher. The team was also honored with a Team Academic Excellence Award recognizing men's basketball programs that completed the 2023-24 academic year with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.
"Education is one of the NABC's five core values, and we are proud to recognize the academic accomplishments of these programs and individual student-athletes across our sport," said NABC Executive Director Craig Robinson. "The dedication and hard work of these athletes, along with their coaches and support staff members who prioritize academic success, deserves to be widely celebrated."
Over 2,400 players earned spots on the NABC Honors Court and nearly 400 programs received NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards for 2024-25.
Atkinson is a marketing major with a 3.61 cumulative GPA. He earned All-MAC Freedom Second-Team honors this past season finishing third on the team in scoring (13.1 PPG) this season. He also led the team shooting 54.1 percent from the field and made a team-best 42 3's on the year. Atkinson ranked second on the team in rebounding (7.0 RPG).
Gibbs is an English major with a 3.47 cumulative GPA. He also earned All-MAC Freedom Second-Team honors last season leading the team in scoring at 15.9 points per game. He also led team on the glass pulling down 8.2 boards per game and had a team-high 26 blocked shots.
