Late Goal Spoils Field Hockey in 4-3 Loss at Widener

Chester, PA (September 27, 2025) - Widener scored with 58 seconds left in regulation spoiling a late comeback from the DeSales University field hockey team in a 4-3 loss at Widener University on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened
  • After a scoreless first quarter, senior Morgan Benner got the Bulldogs on the board scoring on a loose ball in front of the cage.
  • Widener scored twice later in the quarter to take a 2-1 lead into the half.
  • Senior Jordyne Stong tied the game mid-way thru the third quarter on an unassisted goal.
  • The game remained tied into the 53rd minute when the Pride took a 3-2 lead.
  • With just 1:17 left senior Brooke Sodl tied the game at three as the game seemed headed to OT.
  • Widener had other ideas however, scoring just 17 seconds later and with 58 seconds left in regulation to reclaim a one goal lead and ultimately the win.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Benner's goal was the third of the season, while Sodl and Stong each scored for the first time this year.
  • Senior Brynn Balliet had an assist on Sodl's goal.
  • Junior Alyssa Schlossman totaled five saves and junior Alina Culver had a defensive save in the loss. 
For the Foes
  • Alex Quartapella scored twice for the Pride.
  • Paula Thompson and Allyson Hakes also scored for Widener.
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales outshot Widener, 19-15, while the Pride had a 10-8 advantage in shots on goal.
