Women's Basketball Drops First Conference Game of Year at Stevens

Hoboken, NJ (January 17, 2026) - The DeSales University women's basketball team suffered its first MAC Freedom loss of the year falling at Stevens, 56-51, on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics
  • Final Score: Stevens - 56, DeSales - 51
  • Records: DeSales (9-6, 3-1 MAC Freedom); Stevens (12-3, 3-1 MAC Freedom)
  • The Bulldogs are now 13-7 all-time vs. Stevens suffering their fourth straight loss in the series between the two teams. 
How it Happened
  • The Bulldogs got off to a quick start taking a 9-1 lead over the first five minutes of the game and led by eight (13-5) after one quarter of play.
  • The lead swelled to 10 points on an early bucket from sophomore Aubrey Pollard in the second quarter.
  • The Ducks chipped away at the lead and tied the game late in the second quarter before DSU took a two-point advantage (26-24) into the halftime locker room.
  • The lead changed hands a few times in the third quarter with DeSales clinging to a three-point advantage (42-39) after three quarters of play.
  • An early three from sophomore Kayla Ishigami gave DSU a four point cushion but six straight points from Stevens put the hosts up two with 4:52 remaining.
  • The Bulldogs trailed by four at the 2:50 mark before a bucket from senior Sammi White and another bucket from Pollard tied the game at 51 with 1:51 left.
  • Stevens reclaimed the lead with two freebies on the next possession.
  • DSU came up emtpy on its next possession and the Ducks took a four-point lead hitting on two free throws after rebounding the second miss on the previous free throws with 20 seconds left and the Bulldogs were unable to rally late. 
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Senior Mikaili Donmoyer led the Bulldogs with 13 points, adding three assists.
  • Sophomore Marissa LaVerghetta had 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals, and three blocks in the loss. 
For the Foes
  • Olivia Schubiger led all scorers with a game-high 20 points.
  • Leyla Castro totaled 15 points and eight rebounds.
  • Dorothy Loffredo had 10 points, while both Audrey Kehoe and Maya Abramson. 
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales shot just 30.8 percent from the floor.
  • Stevens out-rebounded the Bulldogs, 44-40, and scored 14 second chance points.
  • The Bulldogs had 18 points off 15 Duck turnovers.
