Defense Dominates in Women's Basketball 54-45 Win over Arcadia

Center Valley, PA (January 21, 2026) - The DeSales University women's basketball team forced 26 turnovers en route to a 54-45 win over Arcadia University in MAC Freedom action on Wednesday evening.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 54, Arcadia - 45
  • Records: DeSales (10-6, 4-1 MAC Freedom); Arcadia (10-6, 3-2 MAC Freedom)
  • The Bulldogs improve to 29-2 all-time vs. the Knights and 17-1 at home vs. Arcadia.
How it Happened
  • Arcadia started hot scoring the first five points of the game before a 6-0 run midway thru the first quarter gave DSU a 10-8 lead and the Bulldogs led by four (15-11) after one quarter of play.
  • A 7-0 run in the middle of the second quarter highlighted by five straight points from sophomore Kayla Ishigami gave DSU a 22-15 advantage.
  • The Knights had the answer out-scoring the Bulldogs 9-2 over the final 4:13 to tie the game at 24 at the half.
  • The two teams traded baskets to start the third quarter until DSU slowly built a six point lead.
  • Leading by five near the end of the third quarter, senior Lindsay Bednarek scored the final four points of the quarter to put DeSales up 46-37.
  • The Knights scored the first five points of the fourth quarter, but the Bulldog defense took over from there allowing just three points over the final 8:23 as the lead swelled to 11 points before the final was tallied.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Sophomore Aubrey Pollard and Bednarek each had 14 points to lead the Bulldogs with Pollard adding nine rebounds.
  • Sophomore Marissa LaVerghetta played a near flawless defensive game and added six points, four rebounds, four assists, and four steals.
  • Senior Mikaili Donmoyer had seven points and Ishigami totaled eight points off the bench.
For the Foes
  • Taylor Koenig had a team-high 13 points and Anastasia Bowman finished with 10 points in the loss.
Inside the Box Score
  • DSU forced 26 turnovers leading to 32 points as the Bulldogs had a 32-2 advantage in points off turnovers.
  • The Bulldogs also had a 36-18 advantage in points in the paint.
  • DeSales shot 36.5 percent and committed just nine turnovers.
