Men's Lacrosse Soars Past Widner, 13-7, In Last Non-Conference Game of the Season

CENTER VALLEY, PA (March 27, 2026) -- The DeSales University men's lacrosse team downed Widener University 13-7 at home in the last non-conference game of the season.  

The Basics  

  • Final Score - DeSales: 13, Widener: 7  

  • Records - DeSales (3-7 overall), Widener (2-7 overall) 

  • The Bulldogs and the Pride have met eleven times, with this match up beginning in 2005, the most recent match up happening last season, with the Bulldogs winning 12-6.  

How it Happened  

  • The Bulldogs were the first on the board after an unassisted goal from Blake Finnegan four minutes in the first. Widener then responded to the goal with three of their own. 

  • DSU worked to regain the lead, in the first, with a four goal scoring run, two of the goals coming from TJ Kearns, ending the first 5-3.  

  • Heading into the second, Mark Winkler Jr. Added two unassisted goals, and senior Joe Cieleski, assisted by Jake Hurd, bringing the score 8-4 at the end of the first half.  

  • Coming out of the half, DeSales was able to hold Widener scoreless, while adding four goals to the board, ending the third 12-4. 

  • Widener added three goals during the fourth, however the final DeSales goal from Andrew Piccola secured the game, with the Bulldogs winning 13-7. 

Top Bulldog Performers  

  • Junior goalkeeper, AJ Ardizone finished the game with a 58.3% save percentage, and 12 saves on the evening.  

  • Hurd and Kearns lead the team with four points each, from three goals with one assist, and two goals with two assists respectively.  

  • Andrew Vogel finished the evening with four ground balls and two cause turnovers.  

  • Taylor Wikert ended the night with one assist, leading the team with six ground balls and four cause turnovers.  

For the Foes  

  • Samuel Haverstrom led the team with three goals and two assists for five points.  

  • Luke Shimko ended the evening with two goals, one assist, two ground balls and three cause turnover. 

Inside the Box Score  

  • DeSales took the 26-19 majority of shots on goal and the 45-23 ground balls.  

  • The Bulldogs were 19-for-21 on the clear and won 11 face offs.
