Softball Splits DH with Alvernia; Wins Game One 10-9

Center Valley, PA (April 14, 2026) - The DeSales University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Alvernia University on Tuesday afternoon at McGettigan Park.

Game One (W/10-9)
DSU was in control in this one leading 5-2 thru four innings after a two-RBI single from sophomore Kylie Llewellyn and RBI single from sophomore Gianna Angermeier.

Alvernia rallied with six runs in the fifth inning to take an 8-5 lead.

First-year Mary Kovaleski had an RBI single and DSU tied the game at eight in the fifth inning.  A sacrifice fly from Llewellyn in the sixth game the Bulldogs a 9-8 lead, but the Golden Wolves tied the game at nine in the seventh after their own sacrifice fly.

DeSales rallied to win it in the bottom of the seventh inning when Angermeier beat out an RBI single up the middle to score the game winning run.

Angermeier finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs, Llewellyn had two hits and four RBIs, and sophomore Katie Sharkey came in off the bench to go 2-for-3 with three runs scored.  First-year Emily Richards had two hits and two runs scored and senior Shana Gugliandolo had two hits.

Senior Riley Long earned the win pitching 2/3 of an inning.

Game Two (L/5-7)
Alvernia threatened to run away with game two opening up a 7-0 lead in the first two innings.

DSU fought back scoring three runs in the fourth inning thanks in part to a two-run home run by junior Abigayle Freideman. Freideman added an RBI single in the fifth to make it 7-5 and the Bulldogs pulled to within 7-5 after a ground out later in the inning.

The rally ended there as DeSales was unable to get any closer.

Freideman finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs, recording half of DSU's four hits.

First-year Kora Rodichok pitched well with four scoreless innings.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Thursday traveling to Muhlenberg College for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm.
