Women's Lacrosse Downs Misericordia, 22-9, Clinching MAC Freedom Playoffs, First-Year Olivia Costa Breaks Goal in a Season Record

CENTER VALLEY, PA (April 18, 2026) -- The DeSales University women's lacrosse team downed the Misericordia University Cougars, 22-9, clinching a spot in the MAC Freedom playoffs. First-year Olivia Costa broke the in-season goal record, after scoring six today, bringing her to 59 goals in a single season, breaking the previous record of 58 goals held by Julia Astram (2019) and Jess Brey (2024).  

The Basics  

  • Final Score: DeSales – 22, Misericordia – 9 

  • Records: DeSales (11-4 overall, 5-0 MAC Freedom), Misericordia (7-7 overall, 2-3 MAC Freedom) 

  • This is the second win in a row in the match up between the Cougars and the Bulldogs for DeSales.  

How it Happened  

  • DeSales was the first on the board just two minutes into the game, after Senior Christina DiGuglielmo took the ball from the right side of the field, and dodged a defender for an unassisted goal.  

  • The second for DeSales came halfway through the first, when first-year Olivia Costa was able to capitalize while in the offensive zone.  

  • Misericordia ended the Bulldogs scoring streak capitalizing on a man-up, free-position goal with two minutes left in the first period.  

  • DiGuglielmo added a third to the board for the Bulldogs after a free-position goal with less than a minute left in the quarter.  

  • The Cougars took advantage of the last few seconds on the board, sneaking a second in with just five seconds left in the period, ending the first 3-2. 

  • Misericordia scored first in the second, but just thirty seconds after the Cougar goal, off of a team draw control, Emily Mulroony assisted Costa's third goal of the afternoon.  

  • Exactly one minute later, the same first year pair, had another assist and goal, to bring the Bulldogs up by two points early in the second.  

  • Halfway though the second, the Cougars put themselves back on the board, Senior Emma Williamson responded one minute later with a man-up goal, to keep the Bulldogs ahead.  

  • Hailey Linebaugh and Mulroony contributed two more goals during the second, before Misericordia went on a small scoring streak, with a pair of goals.  

  • The last Bulldogs goal of the period, scored by DiGuglielmo, right before the last Cougar goal of the period, ending the first half, 9-7 DeSales.  

  • DeSales opened the half with a pair of goals, the first scored by senior defender, Danielle Sieja, and the second, a free position goal from Costa, for her fourth of the evening. 

  • The Bulldogs then continued their scoring run with six more goals, three man-up scored by Williamson, two of the three, assisted by DiGuglielmo, who then turned around and scored her own man-up goal. Capping the scoring streak for the Bulldogs was Linebaugh and Costa.  

  • DeSales defense was excellent the entire game, but held Misericordia to just one goal the entire third period, after the lone Cougar goal, DiGuglielmo turned around and scored another for the Bulldogs with just 23 seconds left in the period, ending the third, 18-8.  

  • The Bulldogs continued to pull away in the fourth, starting the period off strong with a goal from Linebaugh just 20 seconds in.  

  • At the eleven-minute mark, Costa added her last goal of the game, assisted by DiGuglielmo, bringing her to six on the afternoon.  

  • Misericordia tried to come back, adding another goal, but the two final goals from Bridey Lawler and DiGuglielmo were enough to seal the game, 22-9.  

Top Bulldog Performers  

  • Costa, added six goals and one assist for the Bulldogs, she also contributed three draw controls on the evening.  

  • Williamson, led the Bulldog defense, who went on a 13-2 scoring run during the entire second half. She led the team in cause turnovers and ground balls with four and six respectively. Williamson also added four goals and one draw control for DeSales.  

  • DiGuglielmo, led the team in points with ten from six goals and four assists, tying her for third in the record book, with most points in a single game.  

  • Mulroony led the team in draw controls with six, she also added one goal and four assists for five points.  

  • First-year goalkeeper Larkin Trainor, ended the afternoon with nine saves, ending with a .500 save percentage.  

  • DeSales took time before the game this afternoon to recognize the eight seniors, Linebaugh, Sieja, Lawler, DiGuglielmo, Williamson, Sara Forchelli, Maggie Evans and Gianna Cataldo, who left a lasting impression on the program.

For the Foes  

  • Gianna Guensch led the team in points with three from two goals and one assist. She also contributed one draw control for the Cougars.  

  • Ashtyn Torbert contributed on the defensive side with four ground balls and one cause turnover, she also added one assist for MU.  

Inside the Box Score  

  • DeSales ended the afternoon with 15 total draw controls and 18-for-20 on the clear.  

  • The Bulldogs took the majority of ground balls (18-9) and cause turnovers (9-5) on the afternoon.

  • DeSales will take on FDU-Florham on Wednesday, for their final MAC Freedom regular season contest at home.
