Men's Soccer Topples Local Rival, Muhlenberg College, 2-1

CENTER VALLEY, PA (Sept. 8, 2026) -- The DeSales University men's soccer team toppled local rival, the Muhlenberg College Mules, 2-1, in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.

The Basics

  • Final Score – DeSales University: 2, Muhlenberg College: 1

  • Records – DeSales: 2-1-0, Muhlenberg: 0-3-0

  • Historically, at the beginning of the match up starting in 2004, the competition heavily favored the Mules. Within the past few years, the competitions have gone back and forth between the teams, and the Bulldogs were able to add another to their tally this afternoon.

How it Happened

  • DeSales opened the game with a solid defensive strategy, keeping the ball out of their net the first half with evenly split possession time.

  • Ten minutes into the competition, Muhlenberg sent the ball down the field, away from their net, junior goalkeeper Colin Hojnowski, punted the ball down the field to the right of Muhlenberg's net, where first-year Abu Barrie, met the ball and found the back of the net to put the Bulldogs on the board.

  • Later in the half, with just 35 seconds left in the game, Muhlenberg had a chance to get one in on a penalty kick. Hojonowski made an excellent save with his feet, to keep the ball out of the net and end the first half 1-0.

  • 21 minutes into the second half, the Mules had a corner kick opportunity and after some action in front of the net, they were able to push the ball outside of the box, where Brady Sutton found the ball and sent it to the middle of the net.

  • The Bulldogs sent the ball down the field off of a free kick, where Steve Berrodin met the ball and sent it over towards the left corner of the field towards Barrie. The first-year drew the goalkeeper to the left side of the net and then hit the back right corner of the net.

  • DeSales continued to stay strong on both sides of the ball, ending the game 2-1 over Muhlenberg.

For the Bulldogs

  • Hojnowski had quite the afternoon for the Bulldogs, ending with three saves and one assists.
