Late First-Half Run leads DeSales past Arcadia, 79-57

Sophomore Jim Malatesta scored a career-high 10 points in the win over Arcadia University on Wednesday evening.

Center Valley, Pa. (January 30, 2008) – A 21-8 run over the final 7:21 of the first half pushed a six-point lead up to a 19-point halftime cushion and the DeSales University men's basketball team cruised in the second half to a 79-57 win over Arcadia University in a Freedom Conference game on Wednesday evening in Billera Hall.
 
        The win is a school-record 22nd straight win at home as the Bulldogs improve to 16-2 overall and a perfect 6-0 in the Freedom Conference as the first-half of the conference schedules comes to a close. Arcadia falls to 7-11 overall and 2-4 in the Freedom. The Bulldogs enjoyed a 40-28 advantage on the glass in the win and shot a blistering 56.6 percent from the field.
 
        At the end of the first half, junior Matt Zwetolitz (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) hit the fourth of his four first-half three-pointers to ignite the half ending spurt as seven different Bulldogs scored including seniors Phil Stricker (Womelsdorf, PA/Conrad Weiser) and Eddie Ohlson (Allentown, PA/Parkland) with a team-high five each during the run.  The closest Arcadia got in the second-half was 14 points at the 11:30 mark as the lead grew to as large as 27 before the final number was posted.
 
        Four Bulldogs finished in double digits including Stricker with a game-high 16 points and eight rebounds. Junior Ed Lapinski (Red Hill, PA/Upper Perkiomen) finished with 13 points and grabbed a game-high nine boards, while Zwetolitz netted 12 points, all in the first half. Sophomore Jim Malatesta (Warminster, PA/Archbishop Wood) was the final Bulldog in double digits totaling a career-high 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting.
 
        Ohlson finished with seven points, four rebounds, nine assists and two steals, while sophomore Darnell Braswell (Allentown, PA/William Allen) finished with eight points, seven boards and four assists in the win.
 
        Senior Kevin Brown totaled a team-high 15 points and junior Bobby Mulholland had 13 points as the lone two Scarlet Knights in double digits.

          As the calendar turns to February and the second-half of the conference schedule begins, the Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, February 2nd when they host Wilkes University in a Freedom Conference game beginning at 3:00 pm. For those unable to attend you can follow the game online via LIVE stats at the following link – LIVE STATS or via the radio on 1470 AM in the Lehigh Valley or on the internet at RADIO LINK.
