Bethlehem, PA (November 25, 2008) – In a game that featured 27 three-pointers, some extraordinary individual efforts and a furious late comeback from the Greyhounds, the DeSales University men's basketball team held on for an 83-78 win over Moravian College in a battle of local rivals at Johnston Hall.

DSU (3-0 overall) canned 13 of the 27 three-pointers, shooting an incredible 56.5 percent from beyond the arc and 53.8 percent from the field for the game, while Moravian (1-3 overall) was one better, making 14 treys and shooting 42.4 percent from long range in the loss.

A big 13-0 run over a four and a half minute span in the second half was the difference in the game as DeSales extended a five-point lead into an 18-point lead at the 14:25 mark. The lead grew to as many as 20 points and remained 15 with 2:48 left to play before Moravian almost completed a historic comeback.

Consecutive three's from Maurice Young and Jeff Cullinan cut the lead down to nine points with 2:06 left before the Bulldogs canned 3-of-4 free throws to push the lead up to 10 with 1:05 to go. A jumper by Young was followed by a DSU turnover and a lay-up from Ryan O'Donnell. O'Donnell missed the free throw that went with his lay-up but another turnover saw Young bury a three-pointer on the right wing cutting the lead down to three points, 81-78, with 23 ticks left.

Junior Darnell Braswell (Allentown, PA/William Allen) was fouled, but he missed both free throws and an O'Donnell three on the other end was half way down the rim before popping out and this time Braswell canned both charity tosses with three seconds left to ice the game and secure the win.

The first half was a thing of beauty if you like crisp offense and some terrific outside shooting. The Bulldogs went 9-for-15 from three-land in the opening half, while Moravian countered with an 8-for-19 effort from deep to trail by only four points at the break. DSU led by eight twice in the opening twenty minutes before a 9-0 Moravian run gave them a one-point lead, but the Bulldogs scored the final five points of the half on a trey from sophomore Eddie Ward (Dallastown, PA/Dallastown) and a lay-up at the buzzer from senior Ed Lapinski (Red Hill, PA/Upper Perkiomen).

A back-and-forth start to the second half saw DSU leading by five points at the 16:28 mark before it embarked on the 13-0 run that eventually led to the win. Lapinski started the run with a jumper, sophomore Brian Hunter (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) canned a three-pointer, and Braswell converted a three-point play with a lay-up plus one free throw to start the spurt.

A lay-up from junior Jim Malatesta (Warminster, PA/Archbishop Wood) pushed the advantage to 15 points and Braswell finished off the spurt with a three-pointer on a nice feed from Lapinski at the 14:25 mark.

Braswell finished with a game-high tying 19 points and added eight rebounds, and six assists in the win. Hunter totaled a season-high 15 points, while junior Rob Schubach (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) led the three-point barrage with a 5-for-6 effort from outside the arc for a career-high 15 points. Lapinski continued his solid play with 13 points and eight rebounds.

Freshman Sergio Camacho had 19 points on 5-of-7 shooting from deep, while Young (15 points) and Eric Weaver (11 points) also reached double digits for Moravian.

The Bulldogs return to action on Sunday, November 30th when they open their 2008-09 home schedule when they welcome 14th ranked Randolph-Macon College to Billera Hall for a non-conference game beginning at 3:00 pm.
