BOX SCORE

Center Valley, PA (March 16, 2009) – Senior Chris Brian (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson Township) pitched six strong innings and senior Mike Bianca (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. St. Joseph) hit a three-run home run highlighting an 8-5 win over Lebanon Valley College in a non-conference game on a chilly Monday afternoon at Butz Field.

The Bulldogs scored in four straight innings including three runs in both the third and fifth frames to build an 8-0 lead and then freshman Travis Hughes (Levittown, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic) and junior Joe Walsh (Green Brook, NJ/Watchung Hills) recorded the final eight outs of the game stifling a five-run seventh inning rally by the Flying Dutchmen for the win.

DSU got on the board in the third scoring three times on just one hit. The Bulldogs added a run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly from sophomore Carson Slonaker (East Greenville, PA/Perkiomen School) and scored three times in the fifth on Bianca's three-run blast. Senior Matt Connors (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) added an RBI single in the sixth to round out the scoring.

Brian earned his first win of the season as he pitched six terrific innings before running into trouble to start the seventh frame allowing the first three batters to reach base before being lifted. He allowed just six hits and struck out three. Hughes pitched 1.2 innings of no-hit relief and Walsh earned his third save of the year, pitching the ninth inning. Walsh now has 12 career saves and is just one shy of tying the all-time record at DeSales held by Ryan Lindley.

Sophomore Mike Newland (Frenchtown, NJ/Delaware Valley) and Slonaker each had two hits to lead the offensive attack, while Connors reached base three times.

DeSales returns to action on Wednesday, March 18th when they travel to Swarthmore College for a non-conference game beginning at 3:30 pm.
