Center Valley, PA (March 21, 2009) – The DeSales University baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon earning a 2-1 game one win over Catholic University before the Cardinals rebounded with a 9-1 win in the second game.

In the day's opener the Bulldogs (8-6 overall) scored two runs on an RBI single from senior Matt Connors (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) and one CU error (8-9 overall) and senior James Niesuchouski (Chester, VT/St. Dominic) and junior Joe Walsh (Green Brook, NJ/Watchung Hills) did the rest allowing just one run over seven innings, striking seven and walking none.

The win was Niesuchouski's second of the year, while Walsh earned his fourth save of the season to move into a tie for first place on DSU's all-time saves list with Ryan Lindley who each have 13 career saves. DSU had just five hits, but three came during the two-run third inning.

In the second game, DSU continued to struggle with the bats, managing just five more hits and only one run as Catholic stormed out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning and never looked back. Seniors Zac Hess (Harleysville, PA/LaSalle) and Greg Treat (Concord, NH/Concord) each had two hits in the loss.

After recording the first two outs in the top of the first inning senior Chris Brian (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson Township) walked the next two batters and then gave up three straight hits before sophomore Carson Slonaker (East Greenville, PA/Perkiomen School) committed an error leading to five first inning runs for the Cardinals. DSU scratched out a run in the second inning but CU added four more tallies in the sixth to provide the final tally.

The Bulldogs return to action right away as they host Ithaca College in another non-conference game beginning at 1:00 pm on Sunday afternoon.
