Bulldogs Win Fourth Straight with Second Straight Shutout

Senior Mike Bianca had two triples and three RBI's in the win on Monday.

Camden, NJ (April 13, 2009) – Five DeSales University pitchers combined on a seven-hit shutout leading the DeSales University baseball team past Rutgers-Camden, 7-0, in a non-conference game on Monday afternoon at Campbell's Field for the team's second straight shutout.

The Bulldogs (17-11) win their fourth straight game, while Rutgers-Camden falls to 8-20 overall. Senior James Niesuchouski (Chester, VT/St. Dominic) earned his fourth win of the season, pitching the first four innings allowing just five hits and striking out three. Junior Mark Reilly (Cream Ridge, NJ/Notre Dame), freshman Jack Kavetski (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh), sophomore Travis Hughes (Levittown, PA/Conwell Egan Catholic), and junior Joe Walsh (Green Brook, NJ/Watchung Hills) them combined to allow just two hits and strike out six over the final five innings to preserve DSU's second shutout of the year.

Offensively, DeSales opened up a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when senior Mike Bianca (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. St. Joseph) tripled home two runs with two outs. Senior Matt Connors (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) made it a 4-0 game in the fourth when he singled home two runs and DSU got some insurance runs with one tally in the eighth off an RBI hit from junior Doc Neiman (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) and two more in the ninth with one coming off another triple from Bianca.

Bianca finished with two hits and three RBI's, senior Zac Hess (Harleysville, PA/LaSalle) scored twice; Connors had two hits and knocked in two runs. In total seven different Bulldogs had hits in the nine-hit attack.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday evening when they take on local rival Moravian College in the annual battle at Limeport Stadium under the lights beginning at 7:00 pm.
