BOX SCORE

Center Valley, PA (April 9, 2009) – Four different pitchers combined on a five-hit shutout, the first blanking of the season for the Bulldogs, as the DeSales University baseball team earned its third straight Freedom Conference win with a 4-0 decision over Eastern University on Thursday afternoon.

The Bulldogs are now 16-11 overall and 6-4 in the Freedom Conference entering the Easter weekend. The Eagles fall to 3-19 overall and 0-6 in the Freedom. DSU totaled eight hits overall, while the pitching staff allowed just five, struck out two and walked just two.

DSU scratched out a 2-0 lead in the second inning when seniors Mike Bianca (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. St. Joseph) and Greg Treat (Concord, NH/Concord) each walked and both eventually came around to score on sacrifice fly's from senior Nick Repas (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) and sophomore Mike Newland (Frenchtown, NJ/Delaware Valley).

The game remained tight the entire way and the Bulldogs were able to cross home plate in both the seventh and eighth innings.   In the seventh, senior Matt Connors (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) plated pinch-runner, junior Andrew Feher (Riegelsville, PA/Palisades) with another sacrifice fly and in the eighth, Repas was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded scoring senior Zac Hess (Harleysville, PA/LaSalle).

The only real threat EU had was in the eighth inning when they had runners on first and second with no one out but junior Joe Walsh (Green Brook, NJ/Watchung Hills) came into the game to retire the next three batters and pitched a perfect ninth to record his sixth save of the season. He along with freshman Jack Kavetski (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh), senior Chris Brian (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson Township), and senior Andrew Kulhamer (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) combined on the five-hitter with Kavetski earning the win.

DeSales returns to action on Saturday, April 11th when they host St. John Fisher College in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm at Butz Field.
