Center Valley, PA (March 15, 2010) – The DeSales University baseball team returned home from its spring trip out to San Antonio, TX last week, finishing with a 3-4 record in its seven games including wins over Schreiner University (TX) and two wins over Cardinal Stritch University (WI).
DSU is now 4-4 overall after the trip after starting the season with a win over #3 Kean University. During the trip, the Bulldogs batted .315 as a team but struggled on the mound (7.64 ERA) and in the field, committing 18 errors for a .928 fielding percentage.
Leading the way at the plate was senior Andrew Feher (Riegelsville, PA/Palisades), who batted .500 with 14 hits, 12 runs scored, a home run, and four RBIs. Feher had a .714 slugging percentage during the trip and was a perfect 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts.
Freshman Derek Chrismer (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood) filled in nicely after senior Doc Neiman (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) went down with an injury batting .500 with six hits and four RBIs. Senior Derek Moyer (Harleysville, PA/Souderton) batted .458 with a homer and six RBIs and junior Carson Slonaker (East Greenville, PA/The Perkiomen School) continued his early season tear, batting .423 with a team-high 12 RBIs. Sophomore Kenny Ridge (Allentown, NJ/Steinert) batted over .400 at .412 with seven runs scored and a .500 on-base percentage to round out the offensive leaders.
On the mound, senior Joe Walsh (Green Brook, NJ/Watchung Hills) tossed three scoreless innings with two strikeouts in relief, freshman David Drinks (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) went 1-0 with a 0.96 ERA in 9.1 innings pitched and junior Travis Hughes (Levittown, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic) was outstanding on the bump with one win and seven strikeouts in six innings pitched without issuing a walk. Freshman Dan Gayeski (New Castle, DE/Salesianum) earned his second win of the season as well on the trip.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, March 16th when they travel to Lebanon Valley College for a non-conference game beginning at 3:00 pm.
