Center Valley, PA (April 17, 2010) – Junior Travis Hughes (Levittown, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic) got things started on Saturday tossing a three-hit shutout with seven strikeouts in game one and sophomore Jason Hadinger (Northampton, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) hit a three-run home run in the first inning of game two as the DeSales University baseball team swept the doubleheader on Saturday and the three-game weekend series with Misericordia University with a 4-0 and 9-4 win over the Cougars at Butz Field.

Hughes had a no-hitter thru 4.1 innings and settled for the first complete-game shutout of his career, allowing just three hits and striking out seven to win his fourth game of the year.

The Bulldogs broke a scoreless tie in the third inning, plating three runs on RBI singles from senior Derek Moyer (Harleysville, PA/Souderton), Hadinger, and junior Carson Slonaker (East Greenville, PA/The Perkiomen School) and added the fourth run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Slonaker. Moyer, Hadinger, and Slonaker each had two hits in the nine-hit game one attack.

In the second game, freshman Dan Gayeski (New Castle, DE/Salesianum) kept pace with his freshman teammate David Drinks (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley), winning his sixth game of the year to tie Drinks for the team lead, pitching five solid innings, scattering six hits and striking out eight, while allowing just two runs.

The Bulldog offense did the rest as Hadinger hit his third home run of the season, a three-run shot, in the first inning and DSU scored in each of the first five innings to plate nine runs. Junior Mike Newland (Frenchtown, PA/Delaware Valley) was 3-for-3 with his ninth home run of the season and two RBIs and sophomore Jack Kavetski (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored twice. Sophomore Ethan Moser (Barto, PA/Boyertown) and senior Michael Jordan (Green Lane, PA/Souderton) each had two hits in the game two win.

The Bulldogs are off on Sunday and Monday, returning to action on Tuesday when they host Swarthmore College in a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.  For those unable to attend the game, you can follow online via LIVE Stats.
