Bulldogs Blanked at Wilkes, 1-0; DelToro Makes 19 Saves

Wilkes-Barre, PA (October 15, 2011) – Junior Victoria DelToro was tremendous making 19 saves but the DeSales University field hockey team was unable to find the back of the cage, falling 1-0 to Wilkes University in a Freedom Conference game on Saturday afternoon.

Wilkes (3-8, 2-2 Freedom) out-shot the Bulldogs, 26-9, and held an 18-8 edge in penalty corners but was only able to score once on DelToro and the DSU (4-10, 1-2 Freedom) defense.

DeSales finished the game with a corner but after a save on the first shot by the Colonel keeper, the Wilkes defense cleared the ball to end the game.  Wilkes' lone goal came in the 52nd minute to break a scoreless tie. Freshman Alison Malatesta had a team-high four shots for the Bulldogs.

DSU returns to action on Monday when they travel to Delaware Valley College for a Freedom Conference game beginning at 3:30 pm.
