Arlington, VA (November 19, 2011) – Sophomore Mike Coleman's three-point play with 1:05 left broke a tie at 63 and ultimately gave the DeSales University men's basketball team a 70-66 win over Eastern Mennonite University in the consolation game of the Marymount University Tip-off Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

Coleman finished with nine points, while junior Brett Moyer recorded his ninth career double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds and senior Bob Zanneo had 18 points, 13 in the second half, to lead DeSales (2-1) over Eastern Mennonite (1-2).

Andrew Thorne had 14 points, 11 rebounds, Owen Longacre added 15 points, and Dajon Daniel finished with 11 points in the losing effort.

DSU once again got off to a slow start, trailing 9-2, 2:18 into the game and continued to trail by seven (19-12) at the 8:12 mark before chipping away at the deficit and ending the half on a 7-1 run to tie the game at 29, thanks in part to five points from Zanneo over the final 2:33 of the half.

EMU scored the first five points of the second half but DSU tied it at 41 at the 15:58 mark on a triple from freshman Jake Hungarter.  Leading by one, 48-47, with 11:02 left, DeSales used a 12-0 run to take a 60-47 lead with 7:47 on the clock led by three consecutive three-pointers from the senior Zanneo.

EMU showed no quit, scoring eight straight points to pull within five, 60-55, with 6:46 left.  Eastern Mennonite slowly chipped away at the lead from there and eventually tied the game at 63 with 1;16 remaining before Coleman drove the length of the court, hitting an off-balance lay-up while being fouled and his free throw sat on the front rim before falling thru for a 66-63 lead with 1:05 left.

An EMU miss on the other end saw DeSales take time out.  Out of the timeout, Moyer was left wide open on the sideline out of bounds and he hit a tough left-handed hook for a 68-63 lead with 37 ticks left.  Still EMU had one more rally and after one Paul Pammer free throw went thru with 23 seconds left, Daniel knocked down a three-ball to pull EMU within one possession with 15 seconds left.

Sophomore Kyle Hash was fouled on the inbounds and after missing his first free throw front rim, calmly swished his second to make it a two-possession game and EMU missed two desperation three's over the final 13 seconds as time expired.

Hash finished with seven points, Hungarter led the charge off the bench with five points and Zanneo pulled down seven rebounds for DeSales.  After another tough shooting first-half, the Bulldogs torched the nets at a 65.0 percent clip in the second half to shoot 43.4 percent for the game.

DeSales returns home on Tuesday when they host local rival Moravian College in a non-conference game beginning at 8:00 pm.
