Center Valley, PA (November 22, 2011) – The battle of local rivals DeSales University and Moravian College had a different outcome for the first time in 11 years as the Greyhounds snapped a 10-game losing streak to the Bulldogs with a 72-63 win in Billera Hall on Tuesday night in the annual showdown two days before Thanksgiving.

The win was also special for Moravian (2-2) head coach Jim Walker as he earned his 400th career win with the victory.  His Greyhounds took advantage of 18 Bulldog (2-2) turnovers and scored 27 of their 72 points off those turnovers, while MC committed just nine turnovers of its own leading to just six DeSales points.

Sophomore Kyle Hash continued his strong play this season leading DeSales with 16 points and pulling down a team-high nine boards.  DSU's top two scorers, junior Brett Moyer and senior Bob Zanneo, were held to just a combined 10 shots and 17 points with Zanneo tallying 11 of them.  Sophomore Mike Coleman also reached double digits with 11 points, all of which came in the second half, and sophomore Paul Pammer played well with nine points off the bench for DeSales.

Senior Jeff Cullinan was the hero for the Greyhounds tying his career-high with 17 points, all of which came in the second half.  He went 4-for-5 from three-point land, including a banked three-pointer as the shot clock was winding down with 57 seconds left giving MC a seven-point lead and ultimately the win.  Entering the game he was averaging 4.0 points on the season and was a career 23.8 percent shooter from outside the arc.

Junior DJ Strayhorn led the way with 21 points, 15 of which were in the first half, shooting 8-for-16 from the field and adding four assists and three steals.  Senior Marcus Hardy also played well with nine points and 11 rebounds and junior Garrett Johnson added seven points, including a big three-pointer late in the second half and four assists to just one turnover.

The first-half was a back-and-forth battle that included eight ties and seven lead changes.  Moravian ended the half strong, carrying the momentum into the halftime locker room after breaking the final tie at 29 with seven straight points over the final 79 seconds to lead, 35-29.

DeSales scored the first five points to start the second half, but the Greyhounds immediately answered with an 11-4 run to take a 46-38 lead with 15:26 remaining.  Still leading by eight with 11:41 left, a Pammer lay-up, five straight points from Coleman, and a freebie from freshman Michael Mestre tied the game for the ninth time and the first time in the second half at 50.

After trading baskets, Cullinan went to work leading an 8-2 run over the next 2:28 with two three's and then converting the biggest bucket of the game with 57 ticks left, his banked three-pointer from just above the right wing to push the lead back to seven points and crippling DSU's comeback hopes.

DeSales shot well from the field, 50 percent (23-for-46), but took 16 less shots than Moravian thanks in part to its 18 turnovers.  The win was the first for the Greyhounds since the 2000-01 season, a three-point win in Johnston Hall and the first in Billera Hall since the 1997-98 season.

The Bulldogs will get a brief rest before returning to the hardwood in eight days when they begin Freedom Conference play, traveling to FDU-Florham for the first Freedom Conference game of the season on Wednesday, November 30th beginning at 8:00 pm.
