Men’s Hoops Season Ends with 88-56 Loss to Catholic

Annville, PA (March 5, 2011) – Catholic University out-scored the DeSales University men's basketball team, 51-27, in the second half, en route to an, 88-56, win over the Bulldogs in the ECAC South Region semifinals ending DSU's season on Saturday afternoon.

DeSales ends its season with a 20-9 overall record, marking the fifth straight year the Bulldogs have won 20+ games and the eighth time in the last nine seasons DSU has topped the 20-win plateau.

Sophomore Brett Moyer was one of a few Bulldogs who played well totaling 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Senior Brian Hunter also reached double digits with 14 points, finishing his career with 1,118 career points and 411 career assists, the only player in school-history to finish with 1,000+ career points and 400+ career assists.

Jason Banzhaf recorded a double-double with 23 points and 10 boards, Cody Otto added 15 points, and RJ Dixon rounded out the Cardinal (21-8 overall) double digit scorers with 10 points. Shawn Holmes had nine points and six assists in the win.

DeSales started the game off strong opening up a 13-8 lead before CU responded to take a 21-17 advantage at the 9:07 mark. The game was tied at 23 with 6:48 left in the opening half and the Cardinals scored the final five points of the half, including a three-pointer with nine seconds left by Holmes, to take a 37-29 lead into the break.

The second half was all Catholic as they extended an early six-point lead into a 16-point margin with a 13-3 run and put the game away later in the half with a 12-0 run that made it a 31-point game.

Catholic took control of the game in the second half when it shot 56.4 percent from the field and the Bulldogs shot just 30.0 percent over the final 20 minutes. CUA also dominated the glass, out-rebounding the Bulldogs, 53-33, leading to a 20-6 advantage in second-chance points.
