Center Valley, PA (January 11, 2012) – Four players reached double digits, including sophomore Mike Coleman with a game-high 19 points, as the DeSales University men's basketball team earned its fifth win in the last six games with an important Freedom Conference victory over conference rival King's College, 78-67, on Wednesday night in Billera Hall.

Coleman netted 14 of his 19 points in the second-half including several big buckets down the stretch to hold off the Monarchs.  Junior Brett Moyer registered his second double-double of the season and the 10th of his career with 13 points and 11 boards and senior Bob Zanneo gave DSU a boost off the bench with 14 points, including four three-pointers to move him into a tie for fourth place all-time with 159 made treys.

Freshman Jake Hungarter also reached double figures with 11 points, while freshman Ryan Griffin and sophomore Paul Pammer each contributed eight points.  Senior Tom Marshall also had a strong game with a career-high seven assists.

Sophomore Kyle Hammonds totaled 18 points, on 7-of-9 shooting, Matt Fiorino netted 11 points off the bench, and freshman Keyton Winder had 10 points in the loss.  Kyle Stackhouse finished with seven assists and four steals.

DeSales (7-6, 1-2 Freedom) jumped out of the gates to lead 9-4 before the Monarchs (7-7, 2-1 Freedom) scored six straight to take a 10-9 advantage.  The two teams battled back-and-forth over the final 13 minutes of the first-half with four more ties, before jumpers from Pammer and freshman Michael Guldin over the final 54 seconds gave the hosts a four-point halftime cushion.

Consecutive jumpers from Winder to start the second half and a three from Hammonds gave KC a 38-35 lead but DeSales immediately responded with a 10-0 run with four different players scoring including Griffin and Coleman with old fashioned three-point plays to give DSU a 45-38 advantage with 13:39 remaining.

King's slowly chipped away and pulled within four on another Winder jumper at the 4:27 mark but a jumper from Pammer, a long three from Zanneo, and lay-up from Coleman pushed DSU's lead up to 11 points and the Monarchs never got any closer than seven the rest of the way.

DSU torched the nets in the second-half, hitting 59.1 percent (13-for-22) from the field and once again did a terrific job at the foul line converting 75.0 percent (18-for-24) of its attempts.  The Bulldogs are now shooting an impressive 71.1 percent from the charity stripe on the season.  DeSales also controlled the glass, out-rebounding King's, 35-23, and the DSU bench out-scored the King's bench, 44-21.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday when they take to the road with another very important Freedom Conference game as they try to even its Freedom Conference record with a rematch of last season's Freedom Conference title game with Delaware Valley College beginning at 3:00 pm at James Work Gymnasium.
