Bulldogs Win Streak Snapped at Four

Dallas, PA (January 18, 2012) – Junior Brett Moyer scored a game-high 24 points, missing just one shot, but Misericordia University torched the nets in the second-half, shooting 69.6 percent from the field en route to an 87-72 win over the DeSales University men's basketball team, snapping the Bulldogs four-game winning streak in Freedom Conference action on Wednesday evening.

Moyer was 11-for-12 from the field, tying the record for highest field goal percentage in a game (91.7%), and added a team-high five rebounds in the loss.  Sophomore Mike Coleman finished with 13 points and senior Bob Zanneo led the charge off the bench with 11 points.  Freshman Ryan Griffin added nine points and had four assists in the loss.

Misericordia saw four players reach double digits including Matt Greene who poured in 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting, Ethan Eichhorst with 19 points and seven rebounds, Jeff Slanovec added 17 points and three assists, and Joe Busacca came off the bench to tally 14 points.

Misericordia (10-6, 2-3 Freedom) never trailed in the game, opening up a 13-6 lead over the first eight minutes.  The Cougars led by 11 (30-19) with 4:28 left in the first-half when four straight three-point possessions, two from Zanneo and two from sophomore Kyle Hash, pulled the Bulldogs (8-7, 2-3 Freedom) within one, 32-31, with 1:55 left to play in the first half.

The Cougars answered with four straight points and held a three-point edge at the break, 36-33.  DSU out-shot MU in the first-half, 47.8 percent as compared to 45.5 percent as the two teams combined to turn the ball over just five times.  Misericordia took advantage on the glass, out-rebounding DSU by 11, leading to 10 more shots on the offensive end.

DSU was within five at the 15:45 mark of the second-half after a lay-up from senior Tom Marshall when a 15-2 Cougar run gave the hosts an 18-point lead (58-40) with 11 minutes left to play.  The Bulldogs rallied with a 9-2 run later in the half, led by seven straight points from Griffin and a lay-up from sophomore Paul Pammer to pull within eight points, 60-52, but MU quickly extended the lead back up to 17 points with 3:28 to go and never looked back from there.

Misericordia, who entered the game dead even on the glass with their opponents, out-rebounded DeSales, 37-24, for the game leading to 12 second chance points.  MU also shot an impressive 55.6 percent from downtown (10-for-18) in the win.

DeSales will look to start a new winning streak on Saturday when it returns home to host Eastern University in a Freedom Conference game beginning at 4:00 pm in Billera Hall.
