Center Valley, PA (January 7, 2012) – Sophomores Kyle Hash and Mike Coleman combined for 42 points and the DeSales University men's basketball team erased a 12-point first-half deficit with a 14-1 run heading into halftime and controlled play in the second half en route to a 72-69 win over Widener University in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon in Billera Hall.

Hash netted a career-high 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds, while Coleman poured in a career-high 20 points, including a 14-for-18 effort from the charity stripe to lead DeSales (6-6).  Sophomore Paul Pammer also played well with 10 points and five boards off the bench and junior Brett Moyer added seven points and 10 boards in the win.

Brian Smith led Widener (10-3) with 21 points off the bench including a 5-for-11 effort from three.  Trey Severs added 12 points, all coming on four three-pointers, and Lamar Jackson finished with 11 points.  Jack Brennan and Perry Wright were both held well under their season scoring average with eight points each.

Widener had control of this game in the early going using a 12-1 run over a three-minute span to build a 29-17 lead with 6:26 left, but the Bulldogs responded out of a timeout with a 14-1 run of their own to take a 31-30 lead before a three-pointer from Smith at the end of the half gave the Pride a two-point halftime lead.  Coleman and Hash combined for 10 points during the 14-1 run.

A back-and-forth start to the second half saw the score tied at 43 for the eighth time in the game when DeSales began to take control using a 16-7 run to build its largest lead of the game, 59-50, with 7:54 remaining.  Pammer led the charge with six of the 16 points.

The Pride chipped away at the margin, scoring eight straight points to pull within one before a foul and subsequent technical foul on Jackson gave DSU four foul shots that all touched nothing but net and the lead was quickly back to five points with 4:17 to go.

Coleman then went to work scoring DSU's next seven points and the duo of Hash and Coleman combined to convert 6-of-8 from the line down the stretch and a last second three from Smith was off the mark after he had hit three straight over the final 84 seconds to pull Widener within one possession.

The Bulldogs shot 49.0 percent from the floor as compared to just 36.7 percent from the Pride.  WU attempted 28 three-pointers, hitting seven, and both teams took 28 free throws with DeSales converting 22 and Widener just 15. DSU also owned the glass, out-rebounding the Pride, 43-26.

DeSales returns to action on Wednesday when they return to Freedom Conference play with a very important early season match-up with rival King's College beginning at 8:00 pm in Billera Hall.
