Coleman Rescues Bulldogs in 66-63 Win over Centenary

Junior Mike Coleman scored DSU's last seven points of the game in the win over Centenary on Saturday.
Box Score
Hackettstown, NJ (November 17, 2012) – Junior Mike Coleman scored five points over the final 12 seconds including a pull-up three-pointer with DeSales trailing by two with 12 ticks left to lift the Bulldogs past Centenary College, 66-63, in the consolation game of the Comfort Inn Tip-off Tournament at Centenary on Saturday afternoon.

Coleman finished with a game-high 16 points and added six rebounds.  Senior Brett Moyer had 14 points and nine rebounds, junior Paul Pammer added 13 points and seven rebounds, and sophomore Michael Guldin finished with 11 points.  Pammer was the lone Bulldog named to the All-Tournament Team for the Bulldogs.

The Cyclones received 14 points and seven assists from Warren Murphy and 11 points from Gabe Cheavers in the loss.

Down 63-61 after a missed free throw CC's Andy Charles, Coleman slowly dribbled the ball down the court and with the defense sagging on him expecting him to drive the lane and go for the tie, Coleman rose up and knocked down a triple from the top of the key to give DSU a 64-63 lead.

After a Centenary timeout, Pammer forced a Cyclone turnover tying up Murphy as the jump ball belonged to the Bulldogs.  Coleman was then fouled on the inbounds play and knocked down both freebies and a half court heave by the host was well off the mark as the buzzer sounded.

DSU had not lead since the 9:50 mark of the second-half as Centenary used a 7-0 run to lead 57-51 with 7:06 to go.  Still trailing by three with 1:42 left, Coleman made it a one-point game with a lay-up at 1:34.  Matching turnovers gave the ball back to Centenary with 44 ticks left as Charles was fouled driving to the hoop but he could only make 1-of-2 setting up the final stages of the game.

The Bulldogs finished the game shooting 40.7 percent but dominated the glass out-rebounding CC, 39-26, en route to 10 second-chance points as compared to just three for the Cyclones.

DeSales returns to action on Tuesday, November 20th when they face local rival Moravian College in the annual local battle on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving at Johnston Hall on the campus of the Greyhounds beginning at 8:00 pm.
