Center Valley, PA (December 17, 2012) – The DeSales University men's basketball team returned to action for the first time in nine days but it sure didn't look like it as the Bulldogs dominated the first-half out-scoring the Bobcats, 48-20, and cruised home in the second-half for the Bulldogs sixth straight win, 74-50, on Monday evening in Billera Hall.
Senior
Brett Moyer posted his fourth double-double of the season and the third in the last four games totaling 16 points and 11 rebounds in just 24 minutes of action. Junior
Mike Coleman added 14 points as the only two players in double digits as DSU used a balanced attack that saw 13 different players reach the scoring column in the win.
This game was never really close as DSU (7-2) scored the first seven points of the game and led 19-5 after a lay-up from Moyer eight minutes into the game. A three from
Brock Witkowski pulled the UPG (3-7) within 10 at the 9:45 mark of the opening half but a 15-1 run over the next 4:40 gave the hosts a 24-point lead and the Bulldogs led by at least 21 points the rest of the way.
DeSales shot 52.0 percent from the field and didn't miss a free throw, going 13-for-13 from the charity stripe. The Bulldogs entered the game ranked ninth in the country in rebounding margin (+10.6) and bettered that number on Monday, out working Pitt.-Greensburg on the glass, 43-22. DSU was also very efficient from outside the arc hitting on nine of 16 attempts.
Junior
Paul Pammer added eight points, six rebounds, and a career-high eight assists in the win. Sophomore
Michael Guldin finished with five assists, sophomore
Ryan Griffin had six points and three helpers off the bench, and freshman
Cody Deal and senior
Greg Peters each had five points off the pine.
UPG was led by Witkowski with 13 points and
Brian Heinle with 12 points.
The Bulldogs now take a break for the holidays returning to action on Saturday, December 29th when they host PSU-Abington in the first game of the Red Robin Holiday Tournament in Billera Hall beginning at 2:00 pm.
