Volleyball Opens Season with Split on Day One of Goucher Tournament

Senior Paige Horrigan had 10 kills and seven blocks in the two matches on Saturday at the Goucher Tournament.

Baltimore, MD (September 1, 2012) – The DeSales University volleyball team opened its 2012 season with a split of its two matches on Saturday night, opening with a 3-0 win over SUNY-Brockport before falling to Catholic University, 3-0, in the second match of the day.

Set scores in the win over Brockport win were 25-9, 25-20, 25-12.  Sophomore Julie Blessing led the way with eight kills and two blocks, while senior Paige Horrigan had five kills and three blocks.

Senior Eden Reichard added five kills, 13 digs, and two aces, sophomore Brooke Horrigan finished with 20 assists, and sophomore Amanda Wallitsch totaled 17 digs in the win.

In the second match DSU fell to Catholic by scores of 25-20, 25-20, 25-9.  P. Horrigan had five kills and four blocks, Blessing had five kills, B. Horrigan had 17 assists and two blocks, Wallitsch added 22 digs and Reichard had 15 digs.

DSU is back at it tomorrow when they face Stevenson University and an unknown opponent in the second match of the day following the result of the Stevenson match.
