St. David's, PA (January 19, 2013) – Junior
Mike Coleman scored a game-high tying 20 points and the DeSales University men's basketball team shook off a one-point deficit at the half in a 77-62 win over Eastern University in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
Coleman scored his 20 points on 5-of-9 shooting and canned 8-of-12 from the free throw line in the win. Freshman
Cody Deal came off the bench to score 14 points, hitting four three-pointers, and junior
Paul Pammer and sophomore
Michael Guldin each had 12 points for the Bulldogs (14-3, 6-0 Freedom). Senior
Brett Moyer finished with eight points and a game-high nine rebounds.
Eastern took control in the first-half riding a hot shooting touch from freshman
Malcolm Garrison who canned four three-pointers in the first-half with the last coming at the 10:39 mark giving EU a 21-13 lead.
The Eagles continued to lead by eight with 3:42 to go in the half when the Bulldogs used a 9-0 run to take a 31-30 lead after a three from Deal before the Eastern scored with 14 seconds left, clinging to a one-point lead (32-31) at the break.
The second-half was all Bulldogs. DSU slowly took control building a four-point lead after a three from Coleman at the 16:29 mark. Leading by just one (42-41) with 14:25 remaining, the Bulldogs put the game away with a 22-6 run over the next eight minutes to take a 64-47 lead with 6:18 to go and never looked back from there.
Deal again keyed the run with a three to start it and finished with six points during the spurt as seven different players scored during the spurt.
DSU shot better than 50 percent (56.8 percent) for the 10th time season, improving to 10-0 when it does so. The Bulldogs were also very efficient from outside the arc hitting six treys on just 11 attempts.
Eastern was led by Garrison who poured in 20 points on six three-pointers and
Dan Werth also reached double digits with 10 points.
The Bulldogs will put their unblemished Freedom Conference record on the line on Wednesday when they return to action at Manhattanville College beginning at 8:00 pm finishing off the first-half of the Freedom Conference schedule.
