Center Valley, PA (January 7, 2013) – Arcadia University out-scored the Bulldogs 16-0 in fast break points and held DSU to just 40.4 percent shooting in halting the DeSales University men's basketball team nine-game winning streak with a 77-68 win on Monday evening in Billera Hall.
The Bulldogs (10-3), who had won nine-straight by an average of 19.6 points per game and had shot better than 50 percent in seven of those nine wins, struggled on the offensive end all night shooting just 40.4 percent and went 4-for-17 (23.5 percent) from three-point land.
Senior
Brett Moyer was a bright spot scoring 23 points and pulling down six boards. Junior
Kyle Hash came off the bench to add 13 points and sophomore
Michael Guldin was in double digits with 10 points.
The Bulldogs had control early using a 12-4 run to take a 16-9 lead at the 11:05 mark. Arcadia (7-5) answered with back-to-back three's from
Joseph Brown and
John Landro starting an 8-1 run that tied the game at 17 with 8:25 to go.
The game went back-and-forth to finish the half as Landro hit his second three of the half with five seconds left to give AU a 35-31 halftime advantage.
In the second-half a tie game at 44 saw the Knights use a 9-2 run to take a 53-46 at the 12:01 mark but the Bulldogs fought back re-tying the game at 58 on a free throw from Moyer with 6:30 to go.
The game was tied twice more and for the last time at 62 all at the 4:14 mark when Arcadia scored four straight points to take a 66-62 lead. DSU pulled within two on a lay-up from Moyer with 1:29 to go but a three from Brown at the other end gave AU a five-point lead and the Knights cemented the win at the line going 4-for-4 over the final 37 seconds.
The Bulldogs entered the game ranked second in the nation in rebounding margin (+13.8) but lost the battle of the boards on Monday, 38-31. DSU did continue its hot shooting at the charity stripe, converting 75.0 percent (18-for-24).
DSU has a quick turnaround returning to action on Wednesday when they get back into Freedom Conference action taking on King's College beginning at 8:00 pm.
