Bench Leads Bulldogs to 72-47 Win over PSU-Harrisburg

Sophomore Ryan Furst recorded career-highs in points (10) and rebounds (7) in the win over PSU-Harrisburg on Friday night.

Gettysburg, PA (November 15, 2013) – Senior Kyle Hash led all scorers with 16 points and sophomore Ryan Furst had a career-high 10 points leading a 43-point effort out of the Bulldogs bench in a 72-47 win over PSU-Harrisburg in the opening round of the Gettysburg College Tip-off Tournament on Friday evening.

The Bulldogs advance to play Elizabethtown College in the championship game tomorrow at 4:00 pm after the Bluejays defeated the host Bullets, 82-55.

Hash was 12-of-13 from the free throw line and Furst was 6-for-7 as DSU shot 32-of-41 (78.0 %) from the charity stripe in the win.  Senior Mike Coleman added 12 points and junior Michael Guldin finished with 10 points.  Senior Paul Pammer pulled down a career-high 13 boards and Furst added seven boards, also a career-high.

PSU-Harrisburg was led by Jared Deibler with nine points off the bench.

A tight first-half saw the Nittany Lions take an early 15-7 lead before DSU reversed the momentum with a 20-4 run over the next nine minutes to lead 27-19 with just under five minutes left in the half.  Furst and junior Jake Hungarter led the rally with seven points each, including all seven of Hungarter's coming in a short 1:10 span during the spurt.

PSU answered with 11 of the next 12 points to re-take a two-point lead with 1:24 to go but three free throws from Coleman and a lay-up from Guldin ended the half with DSU holding a 33-30 lead.

It was still a tight game at the 13:58 mark of the second-half when DeSales put the game away finishing the contest on a 31-8 run to extend a two-point lead into a 25-point win.  The run started with 11 straight points from the Bulldogs including six free throws from Hash and a three from Guldin.

DSU dominated the glass out-rebounding PSU, 45-26.  The Bulldogs also forced the Nittany Lions into 18.5 percent shooting in the second-half.
