Box Score
Gettysburg, PA (November 16, 2013) – Trailing 51-39 with 9:57 to go DeSales finished the game on a 34-16 run to earn a 73-67 win over Elizabethtown College to take home the Gettysburg College Tip-off Tournament title on Saturday afternoon.  Senior Mike Coleman led the way with a game-high 25 points to earn MVP honors.

Coleman shot 13-for-15 from the line and the Bulldogs as a team were 26-for-33 (78.8 percent) from the charity stripe in the win.  Seniors Paul Pammer and Andrew Kohler each had 13 points and junior Michael Guldin finished with eight points and three assists.  Pammer was also named to the All-Tournament Team.

ETown had three players in double digits including Andrew Mantz with 16 points and 12 boards, Joe Schwalm with 14 points, and Lee Eckert with 13 points.

DSU trailed by just one at the break but the Bluejays slowly increased its advantage over the first 10 minutes of the second-half as DSU struggled to score, totaling just seven points over the first 10 minutes of the second-half.

But then the lid came off.

A lay-up from Kohler was followed by a three-point play from Coleman and it was quickly a seven-point game.  The teams traded buckets over the next four possessions but consecutive threes from Pammer made it a six-point game and the Bulldogs used four straight lay-ups around an ETown free throw to go on an 8-1 run that gave DSU a one-point lead (58-57) with 4:11 to play.

The action went back-and-forth over the next three minutes as the two teams traded basket for basket with the Bulldogs still clinging to a one-point edge (66-65) with 1:06 to play when Guldin was fouled in the backcourt.  He calmly knocked down both freebies and after an Elizabethtown miss on the other end, Coleman was fouled going to the hoop and he knocked down both charity tosses for five-point cushion (70-65) with 26 ticks left.

EC missed on a three-point attempt and Coleman hit 3-of-4 from the free throw line over the final 17 seconds to ice the win and the comeback for the Bulldogs.

The first-half was a tight game throughout featuring nine ties and seven lead changes as DSU fought off a poor shooting half (29.6 percent) to trail by just one point at the break.  Coleman led the charge with 11 first-half points.

DeSales took excellent care of the ball, committing just five turnovers and won the battle on the glass, 38-37.

The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday, November 20th when they travel to PSU-Wilkes Barre for another non-conference game beginning at 8:00 pm.
