Center Valley, PA (February 12, 2013) – The DeSales University men's basketball team kept its hopes alive in earning the top seed in the Freedom Conference playoffs, shooting 54.5 percent from the field in the second-half and canning 30-of-36 from the free throw line in an 82-74 win over Wilkes University on Tuesday evening in Billera Hall.

The win is the first for the home team in the series between the two teams in the last seven games.  DSU stays tied atop the Freedom Conference standings with Delaware Valley College for the top seed in next week's Freedom Conference playoffs but the Bulldogs lose the tiebreaker and need an Aggie loss at FDU-Florham on Saturday and must also win its own game vs. Eastern University to earn that top spot.  Misericordia is locked in as the #3 seed and FDU-Florham has already clinched the #4 spot.

Junior Mike Coleman led the charge on Tuesday with 19 points on 6-of-8 shooting.  Junior Paul Pammer added 16 points and five boards and senior Brett Moyer finished with 14 points and eight caroms in the win.  Sophomore Michael Guldin added seven points and four assists and junior Kyle Hash led the charge off the bench with eight points.

DSU entered the game ranked 10th in the nation in field goal percentage (.495) but struggled shooting the ball in the first-half, converting just 42.9 percent but hit 17-of-20 from the free throw line over the first 20 minutes enabling the Bulldogs to take a 42-40 at the break.  Moyer led the way in the first-half with 10 points.

The Bulldogs never trailed in the second-half.  Leading by three (49-46) with 15:23 to go, the Bulldogs used a 7-2 run over the next 2:29 to lead 58-48.

Wilkes continued to battle and chipped away at the lead several times, getting to within four (71-67) with 6:01 to play on a three from junior Chris Shovlin but a three from Pammer on the next possession and a three-point play also from Pammer following a Wilkes miss pushed the lead back to 10 with 4:52 to go.

The Colonels scored five straight points to close within five and had possession three times with a chance to cut the margin down to one possession but each time came up empty as DSU hit 3-of-4 from the line down the stretch to ice the win.

Shovlin finished with a game-high 24 points and added seven assists, while Steve Stravinski came off the bench to score 20 points despite averaging just 3.9 points and scoring 35 total points all season entering tonight's game.

The Bulldogs dominated the glass, out-rebounding Wilkes, 42-21, leading to 20 second chance points.

DeSales finishes the regular season on Saturday when they host Eastern University beginning at 3:00 pm.
