Center Valley, PA (February 6, 2013) – Four players were in double digits and the DeSales University men's basketball team shot 61.1 percent from the field for the game, pulling away from Mannhattanville College, 84-60, snapping a two-game slide in Freedom Conference action on Wednesday evening in Billera Hall.
Senior
Brett Moyer recorded his ninth double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds, junior
Paul Pammer added 16 points, sophomore
Jake Hungarter finished with 13 points, and junior
Mike Coleman added 11 tallies. Junior
Andrew Kohler totaled nine points, five rebounds, and four assists, while sophomore
Ryan Griffin had a strong game off the bench with eight points and six assists.
The Bulldogs led from start to finish on Wednesday but couldn't shake the Valiants in the first-half. Leading by two early, Hungarter exploded off the bench scoring 13 straight points for the Bulldogs, finishing with a three with 9:29 to go in the opening half and giving DSU a 25-18 lead.
MC cut an 11-point first-half lead down to three points with 2:33 to go before DSU finished the half on a 9-2 run to lead by 10 (44-34) at the break. Four different players scored during the 9-2 run including sophomore
Michael Guldin with a three-pointer.
The Valiants chipped away to start the second-half and pulled to within three points at the 12:51 mark, but DSU responded with a 16-3 run over the next 5:44 to take a 16- point lead (67-51) and never looked back from there. Pammer led the charge with eight points, including a three-pointer to cap off the spurt.
DSU shot 63.0 percent from the field in the second-half and canned 8-of-14 from three-point land (57.1 percent) for the game. The Bulldogs also controlled the glass, out-rebounding MC, 42-29, for the game.
Colin Campbell led the Valiants with 12 points and
Andrew Winter chipped in with 10 off the bench.
Jack Bramswig pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds in the loss.
The Bulldogs take to the road on Saturday once again when they take on FDU-Florham in another important Freedom Conference game as DSU looks to stay tied atop the standings in the Freedom Conference. Game time is set for 3:00 pm.
