Center Valley, PA (April 24, 2013) – For just the second time in program history the DeSales University men's lacrosse team will be participating in the post-season, scoring a huge 11-6 win on the road at King's College on Wednesday evening to clinch a Freedom Conference playoff spot and forging a three-way tie for second place heading into the final weekend of the regular season.

The Bulldogs (7-7, 3-2 Freedom) fell behind early, trailing 3-0 after one quarter and after a Monarch (9-3, 3-2 Freedom) goal 6:51 into the third quarter, trailed 5-3.

DSU dominated from there.

The Bulldogs answered KC's third period goal with four straight tallies of their own to take a 6-5 lead on a goal from senior Josh Martin assisted by fellow senior Jarrod Wiedow.  King's wasted no time tying the game, scoring just 41 seconds after the Martin goal, but the Bulldogs dominated the fourth quarter.

DeSales re-took the lead (7-6) just 59 seconds into the final period on an unassisted tally from Wiedow and out-scored the Monarchs, 5-0, in the fourth and 9-2 in the second-half to earn a very important victory on the road.

The only other playoff appearance for the Bulldogs came in 2009, a first-round loss to Elizabethtown College.  DeSales is tied with King's and Misericordia University entering the final weekend of the regular season.  DSU travels to Manhattanville, Misericordia travels to Aracdia, and King's travels to FDU-Florham all on Saturday.  A Bulldogs win guarantees DSU of at least the third seed, while a DSU win and Misericordia loss at Arcadia would give DeSales the #2 seed and a home playoff game.

Leading the way on Wednesday was sophomore Ryan Loughlin with three goals.  Senior James Guerrier had one goal and three assists and Wiedow finished with two goals and an assist.  Sophomore Lance Bracale finished with two goals, while junior Chalie Wilmer and sophomore Ryan Rowse each had one goal and one assist.  Martin had one goal and sophomore Nate Blevins finished with an assist to round out the scoring.

Senior Brennan Gmeiner was once again outstanding dominating the face-offs winning 16-of-20 and picking up 11 ground balls and freshman Matt Warnken was strong in between the pipes making 11 saves in the win.  Gmeiner's 16 face-off wins give him 222 for the season breaking the previous record of 210 wins set in 2010 by Kevin Walker.

DSU is now 7-7 overall, tying the school-record for wins in a season accomplished four other times.  A win Saturday at Manhattanville would give the Bulldogs its first-ever eight win season.  The game on Saturday is slated to begin at 1:00 pm at Manhattanville.
