Eastern University if the top seed and will host King's College in the other Wednesday semifinal. The playoff appearance is just the second all-time for the Bulldogs with the only other one coming in 2009.
Gmeiner has dominated face-offs all season and Saturday was no exception as he won 33-of-36 face-offs in the game and picked up a single-game record 21 ground balls which breaks the previous mark of 20 set in 2007 by
Sam Gobeli. He has now won 255 face-offs this season (72.0 percent) which are both single-season records already and is just 52 face-off wins shy of breaking the all-time record of 600.
His 21 ground balls also give him 155 this season, just two shy of breaking that single-season mark, set in 2010 by
Kevin Walker. He is 64 ground balls shy of tying the all-time mark, set by
Brendan Guerrier. He entered the week ranked fifth in the country in face-off winning percentage and seventh in ground balls per game.
DSU scored the final two goals of the second quarter to take a 9-5 lead into the locker room on Saturday and never looked back in the second-half breaking the game open with nine third quarter goals to lead, 18-9, finishing the game with seven straight goals scored.
