Center Valley, PA (April 6, 2013) – Eastern University scored 13 goals in the first-half and cruised in the second-half in a 20-6 win over the Bulldogs in the Freedom Conference season opener for both teams on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles (8-2, 1-0 Freedom) dominated the first-half out-shooting DSU (4-6, 0-1 Freedom), 32-11, in the first-half and led 13-3 at the break. The Bulldogs out-shot Eastern, 21-14, in the second-half but Eastern cruised over the final 30 minutes to earn its first win of the season in the Freedom Conference.
Face-offs were about equal with DSU winning 14, all by senior
Brennan Gmeiner, who went 14-for-28 in the game and picked up seven ground balls. Eastern won 15-of-29 face-offs. The Bulldogs struggled to clear the ball, converting just 10-of-20 clear attempts and committed 26 turnovers for the game.
Sophomore
Ryan Loughlin led the scoring attack with two goals and one assist and senior
James Guerrier had one goal and one assist in the loss. Senior
Jarrod Wiedow scored twice and sophomore
Lance Bracale had the final goal. Freshman
Matt Warnken made 12 saves in between the pipes.
The Bulldogs won't return to action for another week when they take to the road, traveling to Arcadia University for a Freedom Conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
