Dallas, PA (May 1, 2013) – Senior
Jarrod Wiedow scored with five seconds left completing the Bulldogs second comeback of the game and sending the game into overtime but after both teams couldn't find the net in the first overtime, Misericordia University scored with 1:11 left in the second OT in an 8-7 win over DeSales in the Freedom Conference semifinals on Wednesday evening.
The Bulldogs fall to 8-8 with the loss, setting a new school-record for wins in a season with eight and marking the first time DSU has finished a season with a .500 or better record. DeSales still has an outside shot at earning an ECAC Tournament bid which would be announced early next week.
Misericordia (10-6) had a rapid start to tonight's game scoring five goals in the first quarter, opening up a 5-1 lead before the Bulldogs settled down and began its comeback.
DSU scored three unanswered goals in the second quarter to pull within one goal (5-4) at the half and sophomore
Nate Blevins scored unassisted just 1:04 into the second-half to tie the score at five.
The Cougars answered the first tie of the game with two straight tallies and led 7-5 entering the fourth quarter. Junior
James Guerrier pulled the Bulldogs back within one just 47 seconds into the fourth quarter but then the Cougars held the ball for just over eight minutes during the fourth quarter before DSU finally gained possession with 31 seconds left.
DSU cleared the ball into the offensive zone and called timeout with 22 seconds left. The ensuing play did not develop and head coach
Mike Schambach immediately called another timeout with 16 seconds left to draw up another play and this one worked as Wiedow scored unassisted with just five seconds left tying the game and sending it into overtime.
Both teams had its chances to score in the first extra period but neither could find the back of the net. In the second OT, DSU gained possession first as senior
Brennan Gmeiner won his 11th face-off of the game, and again DeSales called timeout. Out of the timeout however, the Bulldogs turned it over and after the Cougars cleared it, called timeout, and worked it around a few times,
Nicholas Santillo fired a low shot into the right half of the goal giving MU the one-goal win.
Freshman
Matt Warnken was outstanding in between the pipes, making a season-high 19 saves and keeping the Bulldogs in the game, especially in the fourth quarter when MU had possession for just under nine straight minutes. Gmeiner won 11-of-19 face-offs and picked up one ground ball to tie the single-season mark with 156 ground balls.

Lance Bracale each had two goals, while Guerrier, Blevins, and sophomore
