Washington, DC (January 8, 2014) – The DeSales University men's basketball team shot a season-low 29.4 percent from the field and Catholic University hit 49.1 percent from the field as the Cardinals withstood a second-half comeback attempt by the Bulldogs in a 76-63 win over DeSales on Wednesday evening at the DuFour Center.

Four players reached double digits for DeSales (7-5) including senior Kyle Hash with 16 points, seniors Mike Coleman and Andrew Kohler with 11 points, and senior Paul Pammer with 10 points.  Junior Michael Guldin added nine points off the bench.

Steve Limberiou was on fire for the Cardinals hitting 11-of-18 from the field and 7-of-12 from downtown, totaling 33 points, while Corey Stanford finished with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds in the win.

Catholic was in control from the very start on Wednesday evening extending an early 8-5 lead into a 28-11 lead with a 20-6 run over the span of 12:18.  During the stretch the Bulldogs were ice cold going 2-for-11 from the field and at one missed nine straight shots from the field.

DSU did aggressively take the ball to the basket over the final five minutes of the half hitting 15-of-17 from the line as the Bulldogs cut a 17-point deficit down to eight points (36-28) at the break.

DeSales opened the second-half converting on just one of its first 10 shots but after a lay-up from Hash at the 14:48 mark trailed by just 11 points.  The action however went back-and-forth over the next six minutes as DSU was unable to cut into the lead.

Two free throws from Guldin at the 7:25 mark made it an eight-point game but Limberiou had the answer with a quick jumper and a three pointer after two Bulldog turnovers to push the lead back up to 13 points and DeSales never got any closer than nine points with 1:18 left to play the rest of the way.

The Bulldogs did a terrific job of getting to the line, hitting 30-of-37 (81.1%) from the charity stripe in the loss.  DSU was just 3-for-16 from three-point land as compared to 11-for-24 (45.8%) for the Cardinals.

DeSales returns to action on Sunday when they host Medgar Evers College in a make-up of the game postponed last Friday because of the snow storm.  Tip-off is set for 3:00 pm in Billera Hall.
