Center Valley, PA (February 12, 2014) – Senior
Paul Pammer scored a game-high 20 points and the Bulldogs connected on 10-of-20 from outside the arc, shooting 56.5 percent as a team, in an important road win, 87-78, over Manhattanville College on Wednesday evening in Freedom Conference action.
The win keeps the Bulldogs (14-8, 8-3 Freedom) in sole possession of first place in the Freedom Conference with three games left in the regular season with Misericordia University and FDU-Florham each just a game back. Manhattanville (10-12, 6-5 Freedom) and Delaware Valley College, a 71-54 loser at King's on Wednesday, each fell two games back tied for the fourth spot entering the stretch run.
Pammer came out of a shooting slump in a big way reaching double figures for the first time in the last seven games with a terrific effort shooting 7-of-11 from the floor and hitting 5-of-8 from three-point land in the win. Seniors
Mike Coleman (18 pts.),
Kyle Hash (12 pts.), and
Cory Schmidt (10 pts.) also reached double digits, while junior
Michael Guldin added nine points and junior
Travis Bryan continued his outstanding play with eight points, 11 rebounds, and two blocks.
Jack Bramswig and
Anthony Maestre each led the Valiants with 18 points,
Colin Campbell had 14 points, and
Connor Quigley finished with 11 points in the loss.
DSU never trailed in this one opening up a 9-2 lead on a three from Pammer at the 16:52 mark. The Bulldogs slowly increased its lead throughout the half, simply out-scoring the Valiants by shooting 60.0 percent from the field and hitting 6-of-10 from downtown.
The first-half lead was as high as 13 points (42-29) on a three from sophomore
Cody Deal before MVC scored the final four points of the half to trail 44-37 at the break.
Quigley opened the second-half with a three to cut the lead down to four points but a four-point play from Pammer quickly pushed the margin back up to eight points and a quick 9-1 run later in the half made it a 16-point game (65-49) with 11:14 to play thanks in part to seven straight points from Hash.
The lead slowly grew to as many as 19 points and was never less than nine points with under a minute to play as the Bulldogs iced the game from the line hitting 9-for-12 from the line over the final three minutes of play.
DSU torched the nets in both halves hitting 56.5 percent for the game, helping to off-set 21 turnovers. The Bulldogs also owned the glass, out-rebounding the Valiants, 40-30, in the game.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday when they play host to FDU-Florham in another important Freedom Conference test on senior day in Billera Hall beginning at 3:00 pm.
