Center Valley, PA (October 20, 2015) – The DeSales University volleyball team rolled past Misericordia University, 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-20), clinching a spot in the MAC Freedom Tournament in two weeks as head coach
Michele Zabinski wins her 200
th career match on Tuesday evening in Billera Hall.
The post-season tournament berth marks the ninth consecutive season the Bulldogs (17-9, 5-1 MAC Freedom) have clinched a spot and the 12
th overall since joining the conference at the start of the 1997 season.
The win for Zabinski makes her just the fifth coach in DeSales history (all sports) to win 200+ games in a career joining
Tim Neiman (baseball),
Fred Richter (women's basketball),
Scott Coval (men's basketball), and
Rachel Turoscy (softball). All five coaches are active coaching now at DeSales.
DSU cruised to the win on Tuesday night hitting .217 as a team, while holding the Cougars (10-17, 4-2 MAC Freedom) to just .028 hitting percentage.
Leading the attack was sophomore
Logan Wieziolowski with a match-high 12 kills and hitting .320, while also recording three blocks. Junior
Jess Swanson finished with nine kills, while senior
Kait Anderson and freshman
Gabby Savite' each had eight kills.
Junior
Lisa Wallitsch finished 32 assists and three aces, freshman
Natalie Gray led the defense with 14 digs, sophomore
Bernadette Wood finished with 11 digs, and Savite` totaled 10 digs. Senior
Laura Greenberg equaled Wallitsch' team-high three aces.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday when they host Widener University and Wheaton College (MA) in a tri-match beginning at 10:00 am.
