Softball Win Streak Snapped at Six; Swept by Moravian

Center Valley, PA (April 14, 2015) – The DeSales University softball team saw its win streak snapped at six, dropping both ends of a doubleheader with local rival Moravian College, 7-2 and 7-3, on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.

Game One (L/2-7)
Moravian (18-4) scored in each of the first three innings to build a 5-1 lead thru three frames.  DSU (9-9) got its solo run in the second inning on an RBI single from junior Samantha Gibson scoring sophomore Alexa Beaumont who was hit by a pitch and stole second base.

The Greyhounds increased its lead to 7-1 in the fifth before DSU scored an unearned run when Beaumont scampered home with two outs on an error by the Moravian shortstop.

Senior Rachel Vogel suffered the loss allowing five earned runs over five innings pitched.  Beaumont scored twice and had one of DSU's three hits.

Game Two (L/3-7)
DSU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when junior DJ McCauley doubled home junior Michelle Gessner who had walked to lead off the first inning.

Moravian tied the game in the top of the second inning and took a 3-1 lead with two runs in the top of the third.  MC extended its lead to 7-1 with another run in the fifth and three more in the sixth inning.

DeSales rallied in the bottom of the seventh scoring two runs and putting the tying run on deck before a fly out ended the threat.  Senior Carly Bartholomew doubled and scored and Gessner knocked in junior Amanda Setzer who both singled in the inning.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to return to action on Thursday now when they host Delaware Valley College in a Freedom Conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm.
