Cortland, NY (May 9, 2015) – Junior
Samantha Gibson hit two home runs and knocked in five runs keeping the DeSales University softball team alive in the NCAA Regional Tournament with a 6-1 win over Neumann University on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (18-14) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when junior
Michelle Gessner walked and scored two batters later on a single by junior
DJ McCauley single.
The Bulldogs took a 4-0 lead in the third inning after McCauley singled and sophomore
Alexa Beaumont reached on an error but both were stranded in scoring position with two outs when Gibson stepped to the plate and hit her first homer of the day to left field.
Neumann (30-9) got a run back in the fourth inning to make it 4-1 before Gibson struck again in the fifth inning when she hit a two-run shot scoring senior
Carly Bartholomew who had singled with one out.
McCauley improved to 12-5 on the year allowing just three hits and one run over seven innings, striking out two. McCauley and Gibson each had two hits in DSU's eight-hit attack.
The Bulldogs will now take on SUNY-Cortland later this afternoon with the winner advancing to the Regional Championship game tomorrow.
